Several factors are responsible for ovarian cysts and therefore these exist in different kinds. Though the name “ovarian cyst” seems to be threatening, these cysts occur normally in women, mainly during the menstruation period. It is common for women during this period to develop tiny egg filled or fluid filled cysts at the surrounding areas of ovaries. As the menstrual cycle advances, these cysts break and releases eggs into fallopian tube.

The usual ovarian cysts are not so dangerous, but it is mandatory to follow certain preventive measures at early stages of development of cysts as it can lead to unknown other types of cysts. Ovarian cysts can also be called as functional cysts and these do not exhibit any symptoms about their existence.

In rare cases, these ovarian cysts can cause more pain and makes you to suffer from other uncomfortable symptoms. In some cases, these cysts can put health in risk, mainly if they convert out to be cancerous. There are several kinds of cysts that can harm your health. So, it is very crucial to find whether you suffer from ovarian cyst or not, and if yes then from which type of cyst.

Corpus Luteum

The ovarian gland, called corpus luteum produces progesterone when an egg is released to set uterus for pregnancy. Good corpus luteums are fluid filled glands, round-shaped, and are one inch in diameter.

The ovarian cysts produced on the corpus luteum do not display any symptoms and develops mostly at the end of woman’s monthly cycle. These cysts can occur normally at the early stages of pregnancy and in several cases cysts disappear without taking any kind of treatment.

Functional or Hemorrhagic Cysts

Functional cysts that release or contain blood are called as hemorrhagic cysts. These cysts do not burst but release or leak blood causing burning sensation in and around the pelvic region. Hemorrhagic cysts are the common cysts that do not require any treatment. Hemorrhagic cysts occur at some point of time in most of the women’s lives. In the presence of endometriosis, it is necessary to remove the hemorrhagic cyst by surgery.

Dermoid Cysts

Dermoid cysts grow in the form of germ cells, commonly called as totipotential germ cells in the ovaries and these are the fundamental cells from which, several other tissues like teeth, bones and hair grow. These dermoid cysts contain various different kinds of solid tissues. Doctors can see the formation of teeth and hair in dermoid cysts.

Dermoid cysts can occur at any age in women. They cause high risk mostly at the child age as they can cut or stop the supply of blood to ovaries very easily. The common treatment for dermoid cysts at this age is to remove them permanently, either by surgery of by other forms of medical treatment.
